Saying goodbye to the Webspace

Timeline

Protecting your privacy and improving our integration with third-party apps!

Over the past 20 years, we’ve provided convenient access to announcements, information, services and applications through a number of portals and platforms, including the Intranet, Outspace, iWebSpace, WebSpace, and so forth.

Recent developments in web, cloud and security technologies have necessitated a review of the way in which end users access applications and services. In view of this, we were keen to move away from the WebSpace, which was developed on a legacy architecture, and move towards a more modern, user-friendly and secure platform that could be accessed anytime, anywhere and from any device. This project was launched in 2017, and was called Project Liberation, which had seen us move away from a monolithic, legacy web development framework to one that is more modern, user friendly and secure and that is accessible anytime, anywhere and from any device.

This resulted in the introduction of the APSpace – our unified multi-platform services portal for staff and students, which was launched in 2018.  Starting with only 3 services, the APSpace has been progressively expanded and enhanced based on end-users’ feedback, and today, it covers almost all digital services and applications under a single, unified access interface. It is available for download from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store, as well as the Web Version, which works best on Mozilla Firefox, Google Chrome and Apple Safari.

With this, it is with mixed feelings that we announce the official retirement of the WebSpace, which will no longer be available from 1st Jan 2021. The APSpace will then be the sole platform to access applications and services going forward. To commemorate this occasion, we have put together a short video to remind us fondly of how the WebSpace had evolved and served us so well for more than 20 years:
